I would like to propose an additional amenity that would benefit the Guyanese citizenry as well as the tourism industry.
I would like to propose that your administration undertake a project to build a large artificial lagoon by the Georgetown Seawall area adjacent to the large hotels similar to the San Alfonso del Mar lagoon in Chile https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Alfonso_del_Mar. The water can be pumped from the Atlantic Ocean, then filtered and treated. The gleaming white sand beach can be made with our abundant white silica sand hauled from the interior. The energy for the pumping and filtration systems can be generated by our new gas resource, solar, or tidal differences in the vicinity.
The facility would allow Guyanese to experience a taste of a white sandy beach and blue water without the necessity of travelling abroad. It could also be used as a national aquatic training facility for ages from infants to adults to learn to swim and where the seriousness of water safety can be instilled. Instructors can be trained who could go to other parts of the country including schools and the interior to train water safety. This will help to alleviate the senseless loss of numerous our fellow precious Guyanese due to drowning. It also could be used as the base for the Guyana Olympic aquatic team. This facility could also help to showcase, Guyana the land of many waters, our natural riparian and aquatic nature to the world.
