Regardless of whether you believe privacy is an issue, when someone clearly says they do not want to be on camera, the respectful thing to do is honor their wishes. It does not give anyone the right to belittle, insult, or talk down to the Guyanese people.
Respect should go both ways. I have to wonder, would you have spoken to people the same way if you were filming in a certain neighborhood here in the US? Would the response have been the same?
You can make your point without disrespecting the people or making them feel inferior just because you live in the US. Guyanese people deserve the same basic courtesy, dignity, and respect as anyone else.
