Guyana Airline Revival: China Building New Airport for National Airline Comeback!
Guyana is reviving its national airline! After Guyana Airways ceased operations in 2001, the country’s oil boom and major infrastructure upgrades — led by China — are paving the way for a strong comeback.
In this video, we explore the full history of Guyana Airways, from its pioneering days in the 1930s to its shutdown, and the exciting current momentum in 2025–2026 for “Guyana Airways 2.0”. Discover how China Harbour Engineering Company (CHEC) expanded Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) with runway extensions, new terminals, and modern facilities, making long-haul flights to New York, Miami, Toronto, and beyond possible again.
We discuss:
• The impact of Guyana’s oil discoveries and economic transformation
• Potential joint ventures with Caribbean Airlines (CAL)
• Challenges: safety standards, costs, debt, and geopolitics
• Future routes, tourism boost, diaspora connections, and jobs in aviation

Leave this to the private sector. What every start up there is will forever lag behind the modern day airlines. Just look at present day BWIA. Back inthe day , I had to usee my own funds to buy tires for the former GAC when it was stranded in Miami.
No need for China involvement
They just stealing more money
God is good we push in Guyana 🇬🇾 40 years ago God bless Guyana 🇬🇾 no more push for the people in Guyana 🇬🇾
Perhaps the guyanese who have hatred for the chinese there need to rethink themselves
Don’t trust the connections to China! They drain these countries of resources! Oil is there and I expect other valuable resources. I hope the government is smart and maintains hands on leadership. Western countries, especially Canada and U.S., need to monitor and develop their own linkages.
the ppp government is racist, corrupt, and a bounce of resources thieves
ppp bankrupt Guyana Airways
Thanks to china for bringing back Guyana to life I hope we have cheaper flights as of today the flights are too expensive now come come back soon
Caribbean Airlines is old and outdated and very expensive.
The airport is very small and outdates.
Yes Guyana need direct flights to Russia and Argentina
PPP/CIVIC forever, visionary leadership.
Government should not be in business, leave it to Private sector. Just build a new modern world class Airport with International standards and laws, that's my take.
