GUYANA NEWS ROOM – GOV’T ‘ACTIVELY’ EXPLORING IMPORTATION OF SKILLED LABOUR PRESIDENT
With the rapid expansion of the economy, the Private Sector has experienced difficulties in sourcing skilled workers. And President, Irfaan Ali on Tuesday said that the Government is “actively” addressing the issue and over time they will have to look towards importation for skilled labour. The President gave his remarks while delivering the feature address at the Private Sector Commission Annual General Meeting which was held at the Marriott Hotel. According to Ali, the Government is also “keenly” aware that the shortage has led to increase in cost of skilled labour and is concerned that this could lead to increase in project costs. Equally, he said all possible adjustments were made to address the “steep” rise as a result of imported inflation of construction material. To this end, Ali said the Government has to further engage the Private Sector and the labour authorities on the way forward.

The skill workers already employed
Ridiculous! Before the PPPC government explores the possibility of importing immigrant workers to Guyana, why don’t they first explore how to keep about 30,000 Guyanese citizens and skilled workers from fleeing and leaving Guyana, every year? Wouldn’t that make sense! Stop driving skills Guyanese workers away from Guyana by starting to pay them decent wages and salaries. Charity begins at home, so pay Guyanese workers and citizens a livable decent wage and salaries that would keep them home in Guyana. Before you think about bringing foreign workers and immigrants into our country.
