TAGORE: WHERE GUYANA’S TOP CSEC STUDENT FOUND HER FORMULA FOR SUCCESS
At Tagore Memorial Secondary School, Nitya Narine’s extraordinary CSEC performance – 26 Grade Ones and a Grade Two – is a moment of immense pride. But for headteacher Ramona Dyal, the achievement is about more than examination results. The school was established in 1942 and located at Number 63 Village on the Corentyne. It carries the name of Rabindranath Tagore, the celebrated Indian poet, philosopher and Nobel laureate. And perhaps fittingly, the school’s philosophy is not simply about producing students who can pass exams, but young people who can discover their strengths, pursue their interests and contribute meaningfully to their communities. As she reflects on Nitya Narine’s success in this interview with the News Room’s Neil Marks, Miss Dyal also offers a glimpse into the environment that helped nurture that success and why, at Tagore, excellence and balance are meant to go hand in hand.
