Guyana’s oil boom and challenges | Talk to Al Jazeera
President Mohamed Irfaan Ali insists he does not want Guyana to depend solely on its oil wealth.
In recent months, oil revenues in the South American country have increased sharply as the US-Israel war on Iran grinds on, disrupting global energy supplies and driving up the price of crude oil.
In conversation with Talk to Al Jazeera, Ali says that major oil discoveries 11 years ago have transformed the country.
Despite the oil boom, inflation and the cost of living remain high. The opposition says the government is mishandling the oil wealth, but the president rejects those accusations.
Ali says that his government is striving to diversify other sectors of the economy to ensure long-term growth.
In this discussion, Guyana’s president says he’s not worried about United States intervention in neighbouring Venezuela, noting that the administration of US President Donald Trump is helping coordinate security in the region.

8.3/10 well prepare to handle ponts, need to get the filler under control, ie: "ah". Silence is fine, gather the thought.
It's racial divided in Guyana. When in Guyana you can see the difference with government developments in Indian Guyanese neighborhoods vs Afro Guyanese areas.
Booming oil and the country doesn't have good water supply and electricity no shame
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅 they US will take you like how the took the Venezuela 🇻🇪 president
Guyanna is plagued by the misfortune of having lying, corrupt theives as leaders. This one right here is no different……As he sits there blatantly lying and deflecting, the average Guyanese has a different story to tell.
Oil boom and economic boom, BUT can't mange a country with less than a million. Poor road safety, anyone can be bought, nurses yelling at patients in pain, people dying from simple conditions that should be treatable at the doctor's office.
Minister houses getting 2-3 time bigger than their neighbors.
Just a speaking piece. Lots of words and no point. The nuance of politics. Just speak fluently bullshit. Thought an educated man as a leader, would be able to speak to his citizens….but clearly not.
Fastest growing economy on paper. Smh
Cause it doesn’t reflect on the people and the country
#1 food profucer in the world Im With you on that Mr Ali 😊
Unfortunately our government is one of failure and corruption. Al jzeera,i implore upon your team to visit Guyana and see what the standard of living is like amongst the people. The most basic necessities lacks, horribly, the level of poverty in Guyana in this boastful fastest growing economy is shameful.
This president's leadership is one of intimidating his citizens and instilling hear in the nation.
Well Pitched for other world leaders to follow. God bless you my Brother for trying your best for Guyana.🙏

He is distroying our beautiful 🇬🇾 country Guyanese want him out of office like yesterday,he does nothing to better Guyana but go around the world spending the country resources and poor people are struggling and suffering with the cost of living
It was so hard for me as a Guyanese to watch this interview, man answered questions without actually answering the questions 🤦🏾
🤔
Please go interview the residents. The president and his cabinet are all thieves. The president has multiple business, the biggest farm all with tax payers money. He is a disgrace to Guyana
OOOOOHHHH MY GOD…. THIS BANNA AIN'T ANSWER NOT ONE QUESTION ASKED…. YALL SWND ME TO REPRESENT THIS COUNTRY, NOT A UITVLUGT UNIVERSITY GRADUATE… TELL D MAN GUYANESE GA CHANGE DEM EATING HABITS 🇬🇾 🇬🇾 🇬🇾
THE OIL PROFITS NEED TO BE ON THE BLOCKCHAIN
Guyana most theifting and corrupt President
Similar to the situation involving Azruddin Mohamed, this raises a bigger question about money laundering and unexplained wealth in Guyana, particularly when it comes to some Latinos coming into the country. If someone arrives in Guyana earning a relatively modest income, such as G$10,000 a day, but is suddenly able to buy expensive properties, vehicles and businesses, shouldn’t the authorities ask where the money came from and verify the source of those funds? Guyana has AML laws and reporting requirements, but the concern is whether these rules are being applied consistently. The same level of financial scrutiny should apply to everyone, regardless of nationality, political connections or social status.

Al Jazeera was asking some petty questions… Ask Ali about his multi-million dollar farm he has as a business. Ask him about the suppression of citizens' freedom of speech. ask him about forcing Digital ID to citizens while they can't even impliment biometric voting. ask him about the thousands of Chinese business that cane and invade the Guyanese business sector and put many small Guyanese businesses out of business. ask him how he and his cabinet had citizens using an 80+ year vessel with minimal to none maintenance and sunk killing many citizens….and more
Not chemical, we now use soap solutions. Chemicals are band
People are still struggling
This president needs to be in jail with his partner muduro
Lies Lies Lies allll lies. The man is a thief… he leads a band of criminals
The real issue is what happens when you elect presidents from one party and apnu and whatever else is there. They tank the country; they are not educated or capable of handling this economic boom, and the Guyanese people are never satisfied with anything. They only happen when you give them money, lol.
These people are RAPING Guyana.
They are obligating Guyana and running off back to India and Canada having filled their pockets and leaving BLACK Guyanese to pay the piper in 15 years.
Neave next time ask the people for questions to ask him… you missed a lot lol
This interviewer is a skunt
These are all opposition supporters here commenting.
Stop interviewing this guy. It was painful to watch. This guy is out of touch
How can you say things are good when ppl stuggling to afford food?
All the way from Georgetown Guyana. Is only when the Americans put PPP/C back in power in 2020 the than the started looking out for us all the time way england. But Americans put back PPP/C. To get our oil. So ali is a joke to the white people 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Yall keep yall eyes on him, he is using the country Resources to generate wealth for his friends, family & ministers while guyanese is suffering!!! & that factsss💯💯
OWNING HOMES,CARS – LIES – even if that is so, people need long term benefits – health care, utility infrastructure, education – A small percentile benefits while the majority still finding it hard for everyday means of survival – yes money in being made but is it benefiting the country as a whole or just a few – only time will tell. More money (GYD) doesnt equal to higher economy.
Please help Guyana this man does not speak for us nor he care about us what he care for does not have the Guyanese population at heart
Wanting something and actually putting in the work to get it done is completely two different things Mr President. And you are definitely not putting in the work, corruption is rampant.
I can't watch this no more, share lies.😂
These Minister live the best lives and ordinary people can't even afford bread
