Lieutenant Colonel Michael Charles, who joined the Guyana Defence Force at 18, was honoured with a military parade and gun salute at his funeral on Wednesday. He would have served at the 1 Infantry Battalion as a Platoon Commander before venturing into aviation in 1984 and served for decades with unwavering dedication. Lieutenant Colonel Charles, known for his love of the skies and country, also contributed significantly in emergency and medical evacuations. Despite retiring in 2010, he returned a year later to serve with pride until his unfortunate death in a helicopter crash last week
