School feeding programmes help countries to build a healthy and educated population, while supporting economic development.

Together with FAO’s Flexible Multi-Partner Mechanism (FMM), Guyana’s Ministry of Education initiated the development of a National School Feeding Policy.

This novel initiative provides at least one nutritious meal per day to school aged children and promotes sustainable linkages between local farmers and schools.

So far, the programme has supported over 80,000 students, especially in vulnerable areas.

Guyana’s national school feeding programme not only seeks to provide nutritious meals to school aged children but it is also geared towards stimulating the local economy. The Programme is committed to helping farmers to supply local organic produce that improves learning outcomes and create lifelong healthy eating habits for children in all parts of the country thus improving learning outcomes. The Government of Guyana is committed to this programme and is pleased to collaborate with the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations to develop a Comprehensive Framework and eventual Policy for a Sustainable National School Feeding Programme for Guyana.

Thank you FMM Resource Partners and Guyana’s Ministry of Education and Ministry of Agriculture for promoting healthy and sustainable diets.

Be part of the solution.
